Steyr GB handgun
The Steyr GB (Gas Brake or Gazbremser) handgun was designed as a replacement handgun for the Austrian military. A competition was lost to Glock 17 , and as such was intended for very robust environment where complete size was not a greater thought. The gas delayed blowback attribute of the Steyr GB was developed from a World War II German design for easy semiautomatic rifle, the VG-1. The gas delay scheme of the Steyr GB uses the barrel as a fixed piston with the slide acting as moving cylinder. Before firing, and while the gas pressure is great, avoid the slide from opening until the bullet is left the barrel and pressures have reached a free from harm level.
The advantages of this class of systems are its mechanical elementariness and self-regulating feature. The technology uses only the pressure generated by firing and auto-varies itself to match them, regardless of cartridges mass or speed.
The Steyr GB does not have a conventional safety; it has a decocking lever on the slide that lowers the hammer on loaded chamber. With the lowered, the firing pins is locked in position and will not change position until the hammer is cocked either by pulling the trigger, dual action mode, or manually in single action mode.
The Steyr GB is a very strong and very trustworthy gun with excellent ergonomic incorporated into design. This allows it to be accurate and comfortable to shoot. The safety technology prevents there being any trigger to be released before firing. Easily point the gun to the target and pull the trigger. The gas system of Steyr GB allows to use any type of 9x9 mm ammunition. It also cushions the recoil, adding to the guns firing comfort and increasing its accuracy in fast fire. The sight system includes luminous dots that are simply aligned in a row to allow for aiming in low light conditions.
The disadvantage of the Steyr GB that it is quite large, with makes it somewhat difficult to shoot for people with small hands and hard to conceal.
