American military fought with a help of Colt М-1911 with caliber 45 from the First World War to the campaign "Desert storm". More than 80 years have passed since the moment of the creation of this handgun, but this classical gun is still widespread in the world and is considered to be one of the best.

In the middle of 80-s Colt hand gun was replaced with a gun М-9 — modification of Beretta 92. But putting this new gun into service had some problems. М-9 came to the military gradually, so Colt appeared in the battlefield during the campaign "Desert Storm".

he history of such a beloved of Americans gun started in 1897 from John Browning who gained many licenses for different ways of equipment of self-loading pistols. In the course of year he together with the company Colt which licensed his inventions created a self-loading pistol, caliber 38, for the American army.

When American military fought on the Philippines against warlike tribes they needed a new cartridge. A gun bullet with calibre 38 sometimes could not hurt seriously the most furious natives. So, in 1904 the Government of the USA conducted some tests on purpose to analyze people and animals injuries caused by bullets. There was made a conclusion that an ideal cartridge was caliber 45 (11,43 mm). In accordance with this conclusion handgun Colt was rebuilt.

Tests conducted in 1907 showed that to take a conclusive decision concerning the guns under test Colt hand gun additional tests were necessary. In 1909 they were finished and two guns (pistols) were sent for modification. Browning improved the construction of Colt , and in 1910 the model was approved for the passing into service. After regular tests in 1910 year was finished to be tested, and Colt was sent for the final workout. On the 29th of March, the gun M1911 was put into service called "American self-loading pistol, calibre 45. Model 1911".
