Browning Hi Power
Safety and confidence
This gun was developed by John Browning after he has created Colt M1911 . High power had simpler construction but was as secure and reliable as Colt hand gun . There were three main engineering improvements. The most significant was the retrofit of bolt rifle lock. Under the cartridge chamber there was made a beaten lug with profiled cut-off. The lug was connected with a special arm on the frame in such a way that when after the shoot the tube and bolt cover were pulled back, an arm entering the cut-off on the lug moved down a breech cover thus releasing the tube and the bolt cover. In Browning handgun this process was smoother than in Colt where was used a curvilinear motion of the mechanism.
The second important change was a replace of trigger and firing mechanism. Instead of direct connection of a trigger with a cock there was put a trigger bar disposed inside the bolt slide which simultaneously acted as a trip. Now the connection of trigger with a firing mechanism took place only when the bolt slide was in outer forward position and when the bolt was carefully locked. Besides, when Mr. Browning was developing the initial version of high power he replaced an open cock of the Colt with inner spring-controlled striker.
But the most important change was the replace of bore. Long before others John Browning realized that just 9-mm handgun cartridge such as Parabellum would become the main pistol cartridge of future. Therefore, a new gun was developed to fit this type of cartridges. Actually, nowadays this cartridge is produces all over the world.
Belgian modifications
John Browning gave his construction to Belgian Fabric national in 1923 and continuing developing it till his death in November of 1926. After his death the principal designer of Fabric national D'edonne Sjeve engaged in the rework of the hand gun model. The final model of Browning Hi Power was created by him. One of the first retrofits of Sjeve was the development of double-column magazine which included unprecedented quantity of cartridges – 13 units. In this respect trigger bar made by John Browning was very successful solution. Previous connection of a trigger with a cock would not have allowed using a double-column magazine. Furthermore, Mr. Sjeve gave back an outer hammer which allowed determining either the gun was armed or not.
High Power
When you hear high power a terrible gun arises in our mind. This name arised from the French word Grand Pusan. This name was given to the gun by Belgian army after making it operational in 1935. This gun was really more powerfull than all the handguns Belgian army had used before.
According to expectation in 90-s high power started depreciating. Even 13 loaded magazine seemed to have been small in comparision with new model of the guns However during its long work)browning proved its confidence. The only disadvantage of it is a long pull-off. Nowadays there is produced a new version of the gun Mark 2 with changes in handle cover and with a safely lock made for both left and right hands.
